Running time 30’
According to the legend, the technique of crocheting originated in a small village where a woman, fascinated by the spectacle of snowflakes falling on her windowsill, tried to reproduce their intricate design with a cotton thread and a big, curved needle. In his most recent work, Adriano Bolognino, one of the most interesting figures of the young contemporary performance scene, weaves these influences into his dance, creating a choreography that transforms and alters the performers’ bodies. Female dancers in fully crocheted costumes alternate winding vaults with agitated movement, producing a composition that captures the spectators’ attentive focus, as if they were standing by their window watching the snow fall.
Adriano Bolognino was born in Naples in 1995. He is the winner of the 2022 Danza&Danza award for emerging choreographers. His piece SAMIA won the Rum for Dans competition, while other works of his have been selected for various projects: Come Neve for Danza Urbana XL 23, Gli Amanti for Aerowaves21, and Rua da Saudade for NIDPlatform21 and CallforCreation/Orsolina28. He also develops choreography for other companies, such as White Room for the Opus Ballet Company and SKRIK for the MM Contemporary Dance Company. For the 23/24 season, the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, directed by Eleonora Abbagnato, has commissioned him to create a new piece.
