Jewels for Milan
Jewels for Milan introduces forty jewels dedicated to Milan. Each jewel has been realized by designer and producers based in Lombardy that for the first time have worked together in order to dedicate a precious homage to Milan.
The 40 prototypes have been realized expressely for the exhibition and represent, according to Alba Cappellieri, curator and professor of jewellery design at the Politecnico di Milano, “the opportunity to combine people and ideas, masters and young designers, entrepreneurs and craftsmen, research and business, tradition and innovation, local and global from a system point of view that is typically of Lombardy. The same sistemical vision determined the acknowledgment of Milan the capital of fashion and of design. Also for the jewel the Milanese area introduces the same characters of excellence: the existence in the same territory of design, production, education, promotion and communication but, contrarily, to what happened for fashion and design , such forces have never been coagulated together neither have started projects on common strategies.
The first action as a system has been to partecipate to the competition by Regione Lombardia Artemide with the Regio (Jewellery Excellence Network) project: gathering together 14 lombard microenterprises (Albor, Alvaro Bossi, Casellato, Maurizio Colombo, Elite Gioielli, Giampiero Fiorini, Gioielli Unici, Gioielmede, Jew &Co., Macrì, Remo Mondia, Silmar, Dante Socci, Maurizio Zanardi) with the AOL (association of jewellers from Lombardy) the CSO of Mede and the Consortium of Jewellers from Varese, and the Politecnico di Milano (dept INDACO of Industrial design, arts and communication, dept Dig, dept. Of Chemistry, Materials and Chemical Engineering with the project management by Fondazione Politecnico.
To the microenterprises of Regio other 25 companies joined later for the exhibition and have been matched to as many designer Lombardic in order to realize a jewel for Milan. Is the first time that the main actors of the jewellery system converge in a common project that starts the constitution of the Lombardic jewellery system.
