The Regions Lombardy, Liguria, Piedmont and Emilia Romagna with Triennale di Milano present Iter. Architettura del moderno, aiming to promote the architecture of modernity (from the 20th century to date) that can be found in the four participating regions.
The website www.architetturadelmoderno.it presents over 500 data sheets on the architectural heritage of the four regions. It is a rich, varied heritage where exemplary works of 20th-century architecture live together with recent architectures, which are not viewed from a historical perspective yet, the works of young designers who have distinguished themselves in national and international contests.
The guide presents a selection of 100 data sheets divided into files about five theme trails: Soul, Body, Space, Time, Metamorphosis.

The aim of the project is to provide, through these theme trails which connect the different architectures with each other, new approaches and new perceptions to discover or rediscover the individual elements of a “widespread” local heritage, without any attempt to wipe out their distinctive traits but adopting instead a wider view, the view of the ‘big picture’. 
This will make for an idea that is consistent with the trends most widespread in Europe and all over the world, i.e. the so-called “cultural tourism” that tries to fulfil the needs of an increasingly wide and varied public.

The project aims at offering the opportunity to build a tool that is capable of combining tradition with the new ways of a young, dynamic and intellectually lively tourism.

The multimedia corner set up at the Triennale on the occasion of the 2010 Furniture Fair charmingly presents the spirit of the project through a huge amount of photographs of the architectures that can be found in the four participating regions. An interactive station enables the public to personally venture into the project. Especially the ITER database, in search of specific types, architects or ages of interest.

The development of graphics and communication for the whole project was commissioned to the students of the Course of Graphics of Istituto Europeo di Design in Milan, as a project for their dissertations.
The project embodied the visual identity and the communication and promotional tools for the tourism-cultural trails through the places of “modernity” in Lombardy and the neighbouring regions. The chosen proposal was the one most sympathetic to the spirit and character of the whole project; the elements of network and trails recur in it, creating an anthropomorphic image that seems to grow through the courses of the trails, as an identity resulting from the connection of multiple nodes, each one representing a specific socio-cultural experience.
