AIAP Italian Association of Design for Visual Communication on the occasion of the XXI Triennale International Exhibition, organizes the AWDA exhibition dedicated to visual communication projects awarded and selected for Aiap Women in Design Award. The Biennial International Award addressed professionals, students, researchers, and included a special career award, intercepts languages, poetic and different approaches to graphic design.

The biennial Award, a project by Cinzia Ferrara, Laura Moretti and Daniela Piscitelli, aims to understand and promote the universe of women linked to the often little-known visual communication design, in an attempt to reconstruct one or more stories of graphics through the stories of its protagonists, which contribute to the spreading of design culture.

Since the very first edition of AWDA, the themes have been in continuity with the XXI Triennale concept, Design After Design, meaning the culture of the project not only as a design attitude, but also as the ability to interpret contexts, put forward future scenarios, and manage the systems and processes that the contemporary world requires us.

The selections of AWDA projects show clearly the idea of a complex fabric that makes a-modernity its main quality, the result of an approach that is humanistic before being technical, handicraft before being industrial.

AWDA’s second international edition was open to women designers living or working in the European region and in MENA countries (Algeria, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Cyprus, Djibouti, Egypt, Georgia, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Yemen, United Arab Emirates, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Israel, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Somalia, Sudan, Tunisia). AWDA’s third forthcoming edition will be open to women designers who live or work in every country of the world.

In the second edition of AWDA a total of 92 projects were submitted from 9 countries (Croatia, Germany, Italy, Israel, San Marino, Spain, Serbia, Hungary, Lebanon). The jury shortlisted 38 designers for 48 projects deemed worthy of publication. In the final selection three honourable mentions, one special mention and the AWDA 2015 first prize were awarded.

The original exhibition proposed for the XXI Triennale, hosted in the Spazio Sforza of the ExpoGate features the shortlisted and winning projects of the 2015 edition as well as the winning projects of the first edition.

The works exhibited will be published in a book dedicated to the Prize that is already being prepared, the second volume of the AWDA series edited by Aiap Edizioni.
