The Korea Craft and Design Foundation presents an exhibition focusing on the traditional art of ceramics, showcasing the work of some of the most illustrious ceramic masters currently working in Korea. The Korean title, "Bupgochangsin", refers to an expression first used by philosopher Park Ji-won. It means knowing how to make changes based on the old and creating new things, yet not forgetting its roots

KCDF is a public organisation under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism which was founded to promote craft and design nourished by the Korean ancestors and to succeed and widely spread Korea’s own traditional life style around the globe. In doing so, the organisation aims to provide craftsmen, designers, cultural industry experts and professionals in academic and industrial field with diverse opportunities to enjoy craft and design culture highlighting Korean’s daily lives.

In addition, it pursues a variety of projects relating to research, exhibition, education and publishing through networks with the relevant institutions.

The exhibition attempts to focus on authenticity in Korean ceramics. The different types of ceramics found in Korea are showcased. Ceramic pieces made by masters and artists are presented as collectible items. Many are already in the collection of internationally acclaimed museums, art institutions and organizations. The objective of the exhibition is to present authentic making skills in Korean ceramics by featuring onggi (food storing brown ware), celadon (jade-green ware), buncheong (slip treated surface ware), porcelain and others. Korea is a country where both serenity and dynamism co-exists, in the same ways as the old and new exists together. The work presented in the exhibition talks about the dual nature of Korean ceramics – the co-existence of contrasting factors – which builds the core of its aesthetics.
