Triennale Teatro dell'Arte
Following the great success of the last season, the Catalan collective Agrupación Señor Serrano, winner of the Biennale di Venezia’s Silver Lion for innovation in theatre, comes back to Triennale Teatro dell’Arte with Birdie.
The unmistakable style of the company has become a trademark. Their shows are a mix of scale models, video projections, video editing in real time and performance.
Birdie brings together seemingly unrelated elements: the migrants that every day risk their lives to come to Europe, the birds of Hitchcock’s masterpiece and golf. A photo taken by a Spanish photoreporter is at the basis of the narration which juxtaposes two horizons: on the one hand are wars, exploitation, persecutions, famine, on the other hand are prosperity, welfare, security, freedom and protected human rights. With a critical eye and fast-paced rhythm, Agrupación Señor Serrano reflects on our double-speed society, in which an unbridgeable gap separates neighbouring worlds.
Founded by Àlex Serrano in Barcelona in 2006, Agrupación Señor Serrano is a theatre company that creates original productions based on stories drawn from the contemporary world. Their works use both the most innovative technologies and traditional tools to question the boundaries of theatre. For each production, the company relies on collaborations with artists from different disciplines and blends theatre, performance, live-feed video, sound, scale models to stage stories that portray discordant aspects of today’s human experience. Birdie (2016), A House in Asia(2014), BBBB (2012), Katastrophe (2011) are among Señor Serrano’s most recent works. Currently, the core of the compamy is composed by Àlex Serrano, Pau Palacios and Barbara Bloin.
