Triennale Teatro dell'Arte
The 2017-18 Triennale Teatro dell’Arte season features a retrospective on Alessandro Sciarroni in which three of his signature pieces are presented: Folk-s, Chroma and Joseph_kids. Director, choreographer and performer, Sciarroni is a regular guest of theatres, festivals, museums and galleries all over Europe and the rest of the world.
The first work in the programme is Joseph_kids, a performance for children inspired by Sciarroni’s first solo work, Joseph. This version for young audiences features one performer only: a man in front of a laptop. The main character is searching for his own image, which is projected, twisted, doubled and decomposed through a webcam and a few simple video effects.
Serious and rigorous when it starts off, Joseph’s journey becomes funny and unpredictable and turns into a virtual Western duel. It’s a fantastic adventure which will make you think, showing how technology can produce creativity, not just alienation.
Alessandro Sciarroni (San Benedetto del Tronto, 1976) is an artist active in the performing arts with experience in the fields of visual arts and theatrical research. His projects have been presented in theatre and dance festivals, in museums, galleries and unconventional spaces while involving performers with diverse backgrounds. Through his work, which is characterized by rigor and formal consistency, he tries to discover the obsessions, fears and fragility present in performance using repetitive movements, pushing the limits of physical resistance and challenging his performers. Joseph (2011), Folk-s (2012), Untitled (2013), Joseph_kids (2013), Aurora (2015), CHROMA_tutning_project (2014-2017) are a few of his more recent productions which have been presented at Kunstenfestivaldesarts in Brussels, Centre Pompidou as well as at Le 104 in Paris, MAXXI in Rome, Impulstanz Festival in Vienna, the Abu Dhabi Art Fair, and many more cultural centres. In 2013 and 2014 he was invited to create two performances for the Dance section of the Venice Biennial, directed by Virgilio Sieni. He has participated in numerous European programs and residencies including Choreographic Dialogues (2010), Choreoroam (2011), Performing Gender (2014), Migrant Bodies (2014-15). In 2015 he received the support of Fondation d’Entreprise Hermès for Aurora. Since 2016 he has been an associate artist to the Le 104 artistic centre in Paris. In 2017 he received the Premio Hystrio. He is supported by Marche Teatro.
