(Italiano) Una performance che trae la sua forza dalla tensione comune a ogni biblioteca nel mondo, quella particolare combinazione di silenzio e concentrazione all’interno della quale prendono luogo diverse esperienze di lettura.

“A story made of pages that are leafed through, fingers that indicate and thoughts that mysteriously start to wander.” The New York Times

An experiential performance, jointly devised by two of the most imaginative and subversive minds of the British performing arts scene: Ant Hampton and Tim Etchells, artistic director of Forced Entertainment. In the Reading Room of the Fondazione Giangiacomo Feltrinelli, the audience is equipped with an iPod and headphones. The spectators, sitting in pairs, they find a pile of books in front of them and are asked to follow the vocal instructions. As if under a magnifying glass, every sound is amplified, every movement filled with meaning. The black marks on the pages the spectators are invited to look at and share suddenly appear loaded with endless possibilities. A typically solitary experience such as reading opens up to the external world. An astonishing piece of “autoteatro”.

Ant Hampton is a British artist and performance maker whose work, which began in 1998 under the name Rotozaza, has most often involved guiding people through unrehearsed performance situations. From 2007 this started to include the audience: his Autoteatro series tours widely and includes Etiquette, The Quiet Volume, Cue China, OK OK, This is Not My Voice Speaking and The Extra People. Ant often collaborates with other artists, including Tim Etchells, Christophe Meierhans, Britt Hatzius, Gert-Jan Stam, Ivana Müller and Anna Rispoli.

Tim Etchells is an artist and a writer based in the UK whose work shifts between performance, visual art and fiction. He has worked in a wide variety of contexts, notably as the leader of the world-renowned Sheffield-based performance group Forced Entertainment.Exhibiting and presenting work in significant institutions all over the world, he is currently Professor of Performance & Writing at Lancaster University. Etchells’ work has been shown recently at Tate Modern, Cubitt, Hayward Gallery and Bloomberg SPACE in London, at Turner Contemporary, The Grundy and Compton Verney in the UK, at Witte de With, Rotterdam, and MUHKA (Antwerp).
