“Many small wonderful revelations on the world of Pina.” il manifesto
Moving with Pina is an original and ironic performance created and interpreted by Cristiana Morganti about the poetics, the technique and creativity of Pina Bausch, the immense figure of contemporary dance. In Moving with Pina the historical interpreter of Tanztheater Wuppertal invites us to a journey through the universe of Pina Bausch as seen from the perspective of a dancer: how is a solo constructed? What is the relation between emotion and movement? When does a gesture become dance? By interpreting some extracts of the classic repertoire of Tanztheater, Cristiana Morganti illustrates her incredible artistic path in the company of the legendary German choreographer, demonstrating how much dedication, imagination and care for details were involved in Pina Bausch’s language.
Cristiana Morganti is a dancer and choreographer. She earned a diploma in classical dance from the Accademia Nazionale di Danza of Rome and in contemporary dance from the Folkwang Hochschule of Essen. In Germany, she worked with various artists including Susanne Linke, Urs Dietrich and with the Neuer Tanz company which was directed by VA Wölfl and Wanda Golonka. She also began working with actors of Eugenio Barba’s Odin Teatret in order to deepen her knowledge on voice and theatrical research. From 1993 to 2014 she was the solo performer for the Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch with which she is still collaborating as a guest artist. During the 22 years she spent at Tanztheater under the direction of Pina Bausch, Morganti participated in numerous creations and took part in all the repertory performances. She also took part in the films Talk to her by Pedro Almodovar (2001) and Pina (2011) by Wim Wenders. She is a guest professor at Conservatoire Nationale Superieure de Paris and at the Accademia D’Arte Drammatica Silvio D’Amico. Since 1997 she has been collaborating with doctor Laura Bertelé in creating dance labs for teenagers with scoliosis and mobility difficulties.
In 2010 she created, in memory of Pina Bausch, the dance conference Moving with Pina which was later presented in numerous theatres in Italy and Germany, gaining great success. In 2011 she received the Premio Positano Leonide Massine for best contemporary dancer of the year. For Jessica and me she received the Danza&Danza Award for best interpreter/choreographer 2014. After being presented in Italy various times, Jessica and me was presented in 2016 in Ireland at the Dublin Dance Festival as well as in France where it concluded an extensive tour which included a stop at the Lyon Biennale de la Danse and at Théâtre des Abbesses/Théâtre de la Ville in Paris. Her last creation, A Fury Tale, made its debut at Festival Aperto of Reggio Emilia in October 2016.
