Ceci n’est pas un selfie With Mustafa Sabbagh
May 30 2019, 7.00pm
Cycle of Lectio Magistralis "Photography and Surroundings" by AFIP International
In a conversation with the journalist Antonio Mancinelli, Mustafa Sabbagh, famous photographer and artist, will lead the public on a fascinating journey on the portrait and the self-portrait as an art form, through an excursus on the protagonists of photography, art history, and literature, theater and cinema, which have traced an iconographic and educational point of view in the construction of their own image, in the figure or in words.
In the era of the "selfie ergo sum", Sabbagh says "the self-portrait imposes a triple assumption of roles by the artist, as an author / subject / observer of himself": from Narcissus by Caravaggio to a Cindy Sherman-Narciso, you will be guided through artists who have become works of art in the history of art and photography by virtue of their design gap, their awareness in the space they occupy, a more or less tamed self-control, which reveals intimately, violently or gently , its own nature.
