Diarios de Frida. Viva la Vida
July 23 2019, 9.00pm
Diarios de Frida. Viva la Vida is a show that forms part of the PosSession project devoted to female incarceration and to the use of art in rehabilitation work carried out in prisons.
During the show, artists and female prisoners and ex-prisoners will bring to life a number of pages from Frida's Diary with songs and poems devoted to the Mexican artist by prisoners who are still not allowed to leave prison. Gilberta Crispino, one of the historical singers and actresses of CETEC, will emulate the voice of Chavela Vargas, a Mexican singer originally from Costa Rica, who was much loved by the painter. Pairs of Fridas will come to life once more, shrouded in the spectacular scenic foulards created by the artists Giuliano and Linda Grittini. They will narrate their own pages from the diary, involving members of the audience in their performance. The aim of the show is to raise the level of inclusion and to demolish the so-called fourth wall. The Fridas will use their native languages to recite verses and dedications to the Mexican painter.
At 7 p.m., before the show, Cinzia Pedrizzetti will hold the last in a series of photography workshops in which the prisoners will become photographers rather than sitters in portraits.
The detainees will be allowed out of prison with a special permit for the occasion, so they can go to the Triennale garden and take portraits of visitors.
