S.solo

Sara Sguotti
March 24 2019, 9.00pm
Duration: 30'
With this visceral self-portrait, the Italian artist Sara Sguotti stages her anguish and her pleasure. Winner of “DNAppunti coreografici 2017”, S.Solois a bodily research that stems from an emotional encounter with Baudelaire’s poem “The Dancing Serpent” and with works by Louise Bourgeois, Tracey Emin and Ren Hang. The performance focuses on the effects that the sensory experience of these works has had on the artist. Sguotti works with the formless, distorted, macabre, visceral matter of her body. The practice of letting go becomes a search for measure: a trapped animal, who finds freedom in its condition. Freedom that becomes the pleasure of searching and leads to further constraints. Constraints that generate limits to overcome. Sguotti’s evocative performance invites the spectators to face their own limitations and disinhibitions.
Sara Sguotti began her artistic training at the Frosinone art academy. She was introduced to dance from a young age, attending workshops and seminars with several international artists. In 2012 she started dancing with Virgilio Sieni’s company. In 2015 she began a collaboration with Anton Lachky’s company for the project Side effects. Other collaborations include projects with Roberto Magro’s circus company, with Cristina Rizzo and with Simona Bertozzi. Since 2016 she has been pursuing her own choreographic work with a first study of the solo that was then developed into S.Solo. In the same year she founded the project Sa.Ni, with Nicola Simone Cisternino.
